Between Life and Death
Ever wonder how the human body reacts in an extreme physical situation like drowning or freezing?
Bringing those scenarios to the screen was the challenge for Sapling Pictures when tasked with creating a TV pilot for Discovery International called Between Life and Death. Based on four real life stories of tragic medical scenarios, Between Life and Death gave viewers an opportunity to see what happens to the human body in extreme situations and how the recovery process is put in motion.
Contracted by Pip Gilmore Productions to turn the book Extreme Encounters into a television program, Sapling needed to offer more than just film and production savvy. We needed to provide top-notch research and writing to get the technical and medical aspects correct. On an aggressive timeline, Sapling interviewed experts, scouted locations, adapted the book via storyboard and script, directed, produced and cast the project. Sapling also worked with a 3D animation company to depict exactly what occurs in the human body as a result of medical trauma.
The team suceeded in bringing the book to life in award-winning fashion. The show won a TIVA award in the Entertainment category and was award well as Best in Show. The show also won a Telly Award in 2008.
